Jasper
de Langen
Jasper de Langen is a visual artist and maker based in Amersfoort, the Netherlands.
He works with painting, photography, objects, sound, glass, video and interactive technology.
These are not separate categories but tools. One image asks for paint, another for a camera, a piece of glass, a found object or a computer.
Much of the work develops without a fixed endpoint. While making it, a figure may change, a detail may become more important than the whole, or a mistake may send the work somewhere else. A work does not need to be polished or technically perfect. It has to be present. Something has to happen.
A large part of the autonomous work on this site is brought together under the title States.
Alongside this work, Jasper is developing Panoptica, an installation about surveillance, artificial intelligence, recognition, privacy and the power relationship between the observer and the observed.
